Repairing Wood From Scratches and Water Stains
It is all to often that you find that some sort of damage has been done to your lovely piece of wooden furniture but you haven't got the money to fix it.You'll be suprised to hear however that you needn't panic as a vast amount of issues can be sorted quickly and cheaply withing an experts helping hand. Two of the most common types of damage are outlines here also how to put them right.The these techniques should work fine for most woods, you should always test them on a part that is not visible to make sure they do not alter the colour of the wood
Water Rings
All it takes is someone to carelessly place a cup or glass down on the dining room furniture forgeting to use a coaster and you’re left with unsightly marks. Getting rid of them however is not something that should be a big task by any means. Ironing the marks out of the wood works very well. Just place a clean piece of cloth over the stain and iron over it until the stain vanishes.If your stain still refuses to go, drip some citric acid from an orange or lemon onto it and give it a night to soak in. When you return when the sun has risen, you should find that the stain is all but gone. Any remaining marking can be shifted with another blast with the iron.
Scratches
Just as a result of their everyday use, wooded furniture will gain scratches. This doesn’t mean however that you have to live with them when they occur. A variety of techniques can be used to correct the majority of scratches.scratches that are relatively light can more often than not be removed by rubbing them down with the open half of a cut walnut.If the scratch is still not vanishing completely, spray on some high quality furniture polish and rub that in well. For scratches that go a little deeper, mix a very small amount of lacquer thinner with some simple denatured alcohol. Use a high quality fine painting brush to work the mixture along the grain and blend the lacquer over the scratched area. Leave to dry and retry if not successful.
If your paint covered white furniture gets any damage such as a piece of white bedroom furniture then do not use the techniques above. You are much better off painting over the affected part and rubbing it back down so it looks the same as the rest of the wood
