how do you skin a pine marten(marten) so it keeps its fur value?
i trap and this is the first marten i have caught and they are selling for $100 or oover i a used to catching rabbits and and i was setting it for weasel and caught this marten i know if i skin it wrong it looses all fur value i asked about weasel and all i got was “use a knife” i have a general idea but dont want to wing it unless i have to the auctin is in a month and the skin takes 2 weeks to dry

hang it up by rea legs, cut 2 circles around ths legs and work it down to his butt. start working it down, slowly, there fatty so u will need a good knife. Getting it over the eyes and cutting the ears is the hardest part, you will know when u get there.
The fur needs to be fleshed (meaning all fat removed) with a fleshing knife. the fur needs to be stretched afterwards until its dry. if you plan onm keeping it you will need to buy a tanning kit that contains cures,salts, etc to tan the hide then you will have to rub and rub and rub. I have never done a marten before but have done coon,fox,muskrats,mink possum and even a skunk. email me with questions.
