Exploring The World Of Cat Health Care
Cat health care is an important factor when it comes to the cleanliness of your pet, so rather than let it get dirty, as the owner you should be taking the responsibility of looking after your cat. Never overlook the importance of grooming in optimising your cat’s health and cleanliness. If you don’t take care of your cat and groom it regularly, you may start to notice hairballs, so always brush the hair to ensure it is kept in optimum condition. Brush your cat’s hair and keep the fur looking clean and healthy, which will in turn prevent hairballs from forming. There are some cats that find hairballs hard to remove. One of the worst case scenarios of a stuck hairball is an intestinal blockage. If your pet does end up with a blockage in the intestines, this can be very dangerous and could be life threatening, so see a vet immediately.
If you cat has long hair, you will need to brush this daily to keep on top of your cat health care routine; for short haired cats this can be stretched to weekly. Keep your eyes peeled for skin problems when brushing your cat. Always start brushing along the cat’s back and move the comb from the head to the tail to optimise the grooming process. Be sure to follow this rule and brush a few times on one side, then switch over to the other side. Take note of which way your cat’s hair grows and brush in the same direction.
Take extra care to avoid brushing the sensitive areas of your cat, such as the face and paws. If you have a cat that tries to hide when you bring out the brush, there is something else you can use that might be a little more pleasing to him. Many cats have been found to love the soft and relaxing sensation of the grooming glove, and this of course makes it easier for pet owners to proceed with grooming in a quick and easy way. In order to get your cat used to grooming, it is best to start him young so that he can get used to it. You may find your cat grows to love being groomed, and many pet owners have seen positive cat health care results from brushing their pets at an early age.
It is always a good idea to keep an eye out for anything untoward on your cat, such as a rotting tooth or even something like a sharp claw, as these can cause problems for your cat in later life. Check the corners of the eyes as these are hotspots for dirt particles to form and can potentially cause vision problems for your furry friend. When it comes to the ears, it is vital that these are checked on a regular basis to ensure there are no mites or anything that might be obstructing the ear canal. The last thing you want is for your cat to lose its hearing, so be sure to check that ear mites are nowhere to be seen within your cat’s little ears. Once ear mites find their way in there, they can be a nuisance to get rid of and cause you and your pet a great deal of hardship. By performing regular health checks, your pet will stand a better chance of not being subject to ear mites in the future.
If you have a patient cat, you may find that you get the opportunity to examine your cat further and check out any potential health problems before they get worse. Give your cat a tasty treat if he remains perfectly still for you when grooming, as this will show him that he gets a worthy reward next time too. Animals can have little moods, just like people, so if you’re finding that your cat isn’t willing to co-operate with your planned grooming session, the best idea is to leave it a while and try again later. Cat health care is an important part of any pet owner’s routine, but now you can make it run much more smoothly with getting your cat used to regular grooming – he may even grow to like it!
